Exploring the impact of 40 Hz multi-luminaire light exposure in Alzheimer's dementia: insights from a convenient sampling, non-randomized case–control study
Recent studies propose 40 Hz neural activity induction as a promising approach for managing Alzheimer's dementia (AD). However, traditional flickering light is suboptimal in addressing cognitive and neuropsychiatric symptoms (NPS) of AD. This study aims to investigate the clinical efficacy of a novel multi-luminaire lighting technology, with reduced perceptible flickering, for treating AD NPS.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) was the main cause of dementia in an aging society; unfortunately, there is no effective treatment for AD now. Meditation has been reported to thicken the cerebral cortex, and gamma wave at a frequency of 40 hertz (Hz) was recorded during the meditation process from the brain. Previous study showed that non-invasive scintillation gamma frequency oscillation increased the space in recognition and memory of auditory cortex hippocampal gyrus in AD mice model.

This study assessed the effect of stimulating the somatosensory system of Alzheimer’s disease (AD) patients at three stages of their illness with 40 Hz sound. In this AB cross-over study design, 18 participants (6 mild, 6 moderate, 6 severe) each participated in 13 sessions: one intake and 12 treatment.

臺裔科學家蔡立慧研發阿茲海默聲光刺激療法!臨床2期顯著延緩記憶、認知退化、腦萎縮
美國時間9日,由臺裔科學家、麻省理工學院(MIT) Picower學習與記憶研究所所長蔡立慧聯合MIT麥戈文腦科學研究所(McGovern Institute)教授Ed Boyden創辦的Cognito Therapeutics,於2021年阿茲海默症和帕金森氏症國際年會(2021 AD/PD)上公布,其用創新聲光刺激腦神經元數位療法治療阿茲海默症患者的臨床2期成果,患者記憶與認知能力評分下降速度降低83%,腦萎縮也減少61%。

失智症行為與情緒問題BPSD
失智症除認知功能障礙外,亦常伴隨情緒、行為、精神病症狀等「非認知症狀」。這些症狀會讓病人產生更多的不適感,也是照顧者主要的壓力來源。
「非認知症狀」包括憂鬱、妄想、認錯、幻覺及其他精神行為障礙。高達七、八成的失智症患者在其病程中會產生「非認知症狀」。
